A long, winding drive along East Maui's Route 36 – 360 leads to the tiny Hawaiian village of Hana set along beautiful coast lines, pasture land and lush tropical rainforest. On this stretch of road between the industrial center of Kahului and Hana, quaint towns and gorgeous terrain with ferns, trees, flowers, waterfalls, and freshwater pools provide some of Hawaii's most amazing views as Mount Halekeala towers overhead. Since the closing of its last sugar plantation in the 1940s, the once thriving sugar plantation community now relies on local agriculture to sustain itself. Hana condo and homeowners, along with the occasional tourist, can attest to the true sense of "aloha" and relaxation felt in this East Maui paradise village. In addition to driving the local economy, area farmers make eating health the only option as they offer a wide variety organic produce at numerous farmers markets. In addition, nearby beaches for swimming and trails for hiking provide opportunities to further a healthy, active lifestyle. As in most Hawaiian communities, luxury resorts and oceanside condominiums have become more common in the Hana area, while native families continue to pass their homes and rich culture from generation to generation. Even though the real estate market experiences very little turnover, Hana condo and homeowners are sure to enjoy the benefits of long-term value as is typical with most rural, agricultural-oriented communities. |
