Known as the "jewel in the crown of Maui", Lāhainā is the largest and most visited town on the island of Maui. Located comfortably between the Auau Channel and the fertile peaks and valleys of Mauna Kahalawai, West Maui's mountain range, Lāhainā enjoys a healthy mixture of active town life and an untainted natural environment providing unobstructed views of the outlying islands of Moloka'i, Lana'i, and Kaho'olawe. Since the first Polynesian settlers, Lāhainā's residents have assumed their role as caretakers of a legacy of diverse cultures and traditions. Today, the town strives to maintain a balanced, natural environment compatible with Maui's growing tourism industry and the development of Lāhainā condos and homes. Miles of sunny south and west-facing shoreline has no doubt been a draw for Lāhainā residents. Picturesque sunsets, calm waters, and infrequent rains have given rise to both affordable and luxury Lāhainā condos and homes. While golf courses, tennis clubs, and luxury hotels are widespread nearby at the Kapalua Resort, Lāhainā has preserved both the charm of its old whaling days and the influence of ancient cultures as seen along the town's Front Street. As site of Lāhainā's economic hub, Front Street also serves as port for shipping and tourism vessels. Contributing to the local job market and the town's reputation as West Maui's nightlife spot, restaurants and entertainment venues line the street and are overrun during celebrations like Halloween when 20,000 – 30,000 people gather in costume for an island-wide party. While most of Lāhainā's commerce can be found along Front Street, the surrounding neighborhoods open up to provide condos ranging from luxury to simple, accommodating small families to single individuals. Either way, Lāhainā condo seekers will find a variety of real estate options, existing hand-in-hand with an ever-growing economy and sustained natural environment. |
